Fixing Feng Shui for Bad Bathroom Locations

Because bathrooms are connected to plumbing, they’re associated with water, which in feng shui is connected to relationships. But bathrooms were not always the sparkling, clean rooms we see today; in ancient times, bathrooms were filthy and possibly a breeding ground for disease. Therefore, unlike other rooms in people’s homes, bathrooms are considered necessary by feng shui experts.

1. Bathroom Opposite the Front Door

In feng shui, the front door is considered the mouth of chi, or energy. Since a bathroom is associated with water, it will be more effective if it’s not located opposite the front door. Although it can be considered acceptable if you have a bathroom positioned second from the front door, you should avoid locating your bathroom opposite the main entryway.

You can hang the Three Happiness or Three Good Fortune symbol outside the bathroom to remedy this. This can be purchased in oriental supply stores. The three karats, red, orange and yellow, are believed to change the negative energy in a room into positive energy.

2. Bathroom in the Wealth Area

The bathroom should not be located in the wealth area of the house either, which is considered the center of the house. If you have already done this and don’t want to change, the bathroom can be corrected by hanging the Three Happiness symbol in the wealth area.

If the bathroom is a room in your home and you can’t avoid having it in the wealth area, the Three Happiness symbol creates balance in the house. According to feng shui experts, the ideal placement of the Three Happiness symbol is next to the bathroom, although it should not be placed directly above it or in its center.

3. Bathroom in the Center of the House

If the bathroom is located directly in the center of the house, this will cause chi to be stagnant. To remedy this, place a bowl of water in the bathroom. Ensure that it doesn’t leak and the bowl is not filled to the brim.

Other helpful feng shui ideas for your home include positioning mirrors in the house to symbolize abundance, such as a broken mirror or a mirror placed with the reflective surface on the floor. It’s also helpful to have someone with you during your home feng shui journey.

4. Bathroom in the Family/Love Area

The family/love area is considered the most crucial area of the house, and experts advise that it should never be disturbed by loud noises or disturbing activities. Since the bathroom is associated with relationships, you should avoid placing it in this area.

If you have already done this, change the negative energy in the room by hanging the Three Happiness symbol in the family area.

5. Bathroom in the Career Area

If your bathroom is located in your career area, it should be corrected by hanging a picture of a tiger above the toilet. The tiger is associated with the career area, and in feng shui is considered a powerful protector.

If you have already hung a picture of a tiger in the career area, place the Three Happiness symbol outside. If you have already hung the symbol in the career area, hang it outside your home to balance the negative energy.

As you can see, many factors go into feng shui in the bathroom. It’s best to hire a professional feng shui consultant if you want your home feng shui to be correct. If you can’t afford to hire a professional, you can still enjoy some of the benefits of feng shui.
